CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Ruby Rose
AGE: 16 (as of start of series).
CANON: RWBY
RESERVATION LINK: Here!

CANON HISTORY: Justice will be swift! Justice will be painful! It will be DELICIOUS!
CANON PERSONALITY: A key word for Ruby Rose might be "aggressive". Not in the traditional sense of straightforward violence - not that she's short on that when it comes to her duties as a Huntress either - but in the sense of a very gung-ho, impulsive attitude, prone to dive right into any situation presented her. This came, in part, from her teacher and uncle, Qrow Branwen, but also from her learning at her former school of Signal, where she was among the best in her class and thus would tend to get right into the action in part as a way to show off, or to make up for her social inadequacies. Over time, having become a team leader at Beacon and learned to take that seriously, she has learned to make a plan (at least when she has allies around), and she's very good at changing the plan or lack thereof once things are going, but her initial dive-ins have a slight tendency to go poorly more often than they work favorably. In part because of this, she has developed a tendency to specifically develop and practice plans that help her and her teammates adapt to not having a plan, usually because they've entered a fight less-than-expectedly.

Her same gung-ho attitude reflects itself in her combat training, where she dived into one thing above all else - notably leaving her in a lot of trouble if she's caught without her weapon in a fight. The amount of effort she put into mastering Crescent Rose (as well as building it herself) was practically necessary to master it, but had a side effect of stunting her development of social skills due to the sheer amount of time she had to put into it, making her very awkward when it comes to making friends. It's also slightly strained her relationship with her martial-artist father (who was the primary teacher of her sister).

The amount of time and effort put into building Crescent Rose means that Ruby has become a good bit of a weapons fangirl; she has, at times, flat-out said she finds meeting new weapons better than meeting new people, and had been a bit of a loner during her time at Signal. This can also explain her occasional failure to catch social cues, particularly sarcasm. Fortunately, she tends to become a lot more comfortable around people quickly once she has actually made friends with them, and she tends to develop a strong sense of trust with those who make their way into her social bubble.

When it comes to her team, Ruby is devoted, fearless, and very focused on their well-being. Especially as her world has shifted around her, Ruby's become quick to come up with - and adjust - any plan to suit her situation. She takes her assignment as team leader very seriously, and will go to great lengths to protect her friends. Unfortunately, this means that great anguish defines her when she fails to protect them - most painfully when she watched Pyrrha Nikos die right in front of her, a scar that has driven her actions since, and which so far has been the only time her mysterious silver-eye power has activated. Notably, she has not handled Pyrrha's passing gracefully, and months later is still shown having anguish and nightmares about it. Ultimately, if it is at all in her power, she will put the safety of her friends above anything else - even her own safety, a fact that distresses her friends greatly. (Notably, even as pained as she was at doing so, Ruby did respect Yang's wishes to leave her alone for a significant timeframe, though.)

In less serious times, Ruby has a tendency to behave a bit 'young' for her age of sixteen, favoring sweets and cute things. Her mode of dress favors fuller coverage, leaving only her hands and face uncovered, until after Pyrrha's passing (perhaps in an odd rememberance for Pyrrha's significantly 'showier' outfit preferences); however, her casual wear (and collection of figures) seems to favor wolf imagery - funny, given how many wolf-like Beowulf Grimm she has had to fight, and the fact that selfsame Beowulves came very, very close to killing her when she was very young. It would not be unfair to compare this reaction to her tendency to wear outfits that show her body a little more after Pyrrha's passing - as if taking on aspects of the traumas of her past is part of her subconscious coping mechanisms.

Her gung-ho attitude and slowly-developed tendency towards making plans in serious situations can also carry itself to her more ordinary times - see such examples as her massive binder of plans for a 'best day ever' towards the end of her school vacation, her iconically severe overacting when a food fight breaks out between her team and Team JNPR (followed by demonstrating a specific plan for this exact situation when she points her sister towards a pair of turkeys to use as boxing gloves), or her exuberant glee when she found out that her father had mailed her dog, Zwei, to her in a cardboard shipping tube. Or, directly related, her choice to carry Zwei in her backpack on a highly dangerous field mission. (At least that one wound up paying off; it seems she was aware of Zwei appearing to have his own superpowers, making that particular choice, while perhaps impulsive, a smart decision in the long run.)

And, of course, there's her insistence on wearing a red cape most of the time, which has been used against her or just caused her group more than a few times. It's likely that she picked up the cape from her uncle Qrow, and views it as an appropriately 'showy' costume element for the kind of superheroine she practically is, even if in reality it's not superbly practical. It's likely that this, too, reflects her tendency to 'tak on' aspects of traumatic incidents, given Qrow was wearing his own red cape when he saved her and Yang from the Beowulves. If asked, she'd likely justify it by claiming that it offers camoflauge against the rose petals that appear each time she uses her Semblance. At least that time it snagged on a rope and choked her wasn't canon… Pointedly, the season after that saw her switch to a cape that was rigged with a safer clasp that looks more likely to release or break if strained.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ruby was skilled enough in battle to be brought into Beacon Academy two years early - and it shows, when she gets into her full flow of combat. She has the strength to casually wield the High-Caliber Sniper Scythe known as Crescent Rose, whicha slightly more average person can barely even lift. Further, she has the dexterity to swing it precisely - or aim its powerful gun to hit foes even at significant range. However, her training in the weapon is specialized, to the point where she has a hard time operating in a fight without it.

At least some of her skill with the weapon and in general comes from her inherent power as a Huntress - the ability to catapult herself in a chosen direction at great speed (sometimes enough to seem like she's teleporting). She can even use this in midair, changing directions at high speed, or creating gusts of wind (or even tornadoes) to blow enemies away. Each use comes with the appearance of rose petals along her path. An advanced technique with this power showed her seemingly fading into a swarm of petals before 'reforming' at a location of her choosing.

This is on top of her inherent Aura, a manifestation of her soul which grants her a limited but slowly regenerating shield against injury. (However, some strikes, while they may not have caused a serious injury, are still shown to clearly hurt.) The strength of one's aura is readable using appropriately-configured electronics. Using one's Aura too much is physically draining, though, requiring training to improve one's ability to use it repeatedly (training Ruby evidently has not slacked on over the course of the series).

More mysterious is the power of Ruby's silver eyes - an extremely rare trait that, when unleashed by anguish was powerful enough to freeze a dragon solid (apparently killing it), and inflicted seemingly permanent and severe injuries on Cinder Fall in spite of (or maybe because of) the fire using villainess's recently-acquired powers as the Fall Maiden.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Rita Redfeldt
AU AGE: 18 (with an AU birthdate of March 10th)
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES:Rita is physically weaker and less quick than Ruby - a bit above human average thanks to martial arts training, but not precisely exceptional. Her silver canon eyes have changed to a less bright gray. Her hair is flat black by default (though she's tipped it red a few times, most recently as a gift to herself for passing a test).

AU HISTORY:
Rita Redfeldt was born to a different mother from her half-sister, Jinjing Sawyl Longwei (full permission from and arrangements with Yang's player confirmed). 'Yin' had some sibling rivalry for a time, but they eventually grew to get on well enough. However, things began to grow more complicated when her mother died unexpectedly while out of town - running the martial arts dojo into the ground because Rita's inheritance was only Rita's, and would only be hers when she became a legal adult, keeping her devastated father from having the funding to get the help he needed to keep his business afloat. Rita, in elementary school at the time, was devastated by this; while it hurt severely for her, it hurt almost as bad to see what it did to her father and sister, especially as the circumstances just kept pouring down in the months following it. A lot of the stress from all of this wound up bottled up inside of her, and still hasn't been entirely worked through, making it hard for her to feel comfortable building relationships with people even years afterward.

Still, she dove into her studies, took various part time and summer jobs, and generally did what she could to keep her sister and father afloat while trying to prepare her own life. She discovered a knack for electronics, and kept on developing it from there, alongside some music lessons when a spot opened in a class at her school. Finally, things were starting to look up; she had managed to squirrel away enough money for a guitar and some parts for her electronics hobby, and Yin saved enough for a motorcycle to help her get to and from work.

Then, things got worse again as Rita got into high school, as a bike accident cost Yin much of her arm, leaving her unable to ride, severely damaging ability to practice martial arts, and crippling her with medical debt. The circumstances wore on Yin enough to send her spiralling into a deep depression, and caused her to push Rita away, a fact that hurt Rita greatly but that she chose to respect, no matter how much she didn't want to. Pouring herself into her studies even more, Rita graduated from high school two years early, collecting a pile of scholarships, securing a dorm room for herself, and moving into college life at Recollé University, giving her sister and father some distance she was sure they needed, though still keeping in touch when she could.

Rita wasn't exactly quick to make friends at the school - she now had a room for herself, after all, where she could spend her evenings not interacting with people, focusing on her studies and her electronics projects even more than before. She also began to get into the power of the Internet, albeit shying away from interacting with people on it, regularly spending hours binging a television show she liked or just watching stupid videos. This led to her discovering a pleasant surprise, when she found a pile of videos of disabled drummers, one of whom used a custom, electonically-modified drum kit to lay down some exceptional rhythms with one arm.

Offhandedly, she e-mailed the video link to Jinjing… and, when Yin was immediately interested, they started meeting together again to build the kit. Finally, Yin had her energy back, at least a little; certainly, Rita loved the result, even dusting off her guitar and joining Yin in recordings for a few Youtube videos. As yet, however, she's avoided getting into the social media side of things, apparently convinced that There Be Dragons Down There or something, and hasn't joined Yin at any live shows yet - not even having seen her perform with local groups or touring bands. (Not that she hasn't wanted to, but there's always that test the next night, or the fact that no fake ID on the planet would convince most bouncers to let the 18-year-old into the kind of bars Yin often performs at.)

So far, at least, Rita has kept up with her classes regardless, placing priority on doing well in her Electrical Engineering major (and music minor) to ensure she has as many different things she could possibly do after graduating. As to WHAT she really wants to do, she hasn't thought about that part as much at all yet. She made the decision, when she was eighteen, to lock her entire inheritance into an investment portfolio, where she wouldn't be tempted to blow it all on something she'd regret some years down the road, only taking a portion of the interest each month to supplement her scholarships and provide a bit of fun money. This has proven a wise decision, since she tends to blow through her fun money very quickly every time she gets the chance in spite of her claiming to have financial discipline. She probably owes several people money from her initial gathering of funds for Yin's drum kit…

AU PERSONALITY:
While Ruby Rose's imagination was captured by the superheroic Huntressess of her world and the amazing weapons they built, Rita Redfeldt has found herself a bit of a streak for the Maker movement, particularly in working with electronics via Arduino gear and similar technologies. However, while shiny electronic and robotic creations can drive Rita to distraction (and motor-mouthed squealing), she's not quite as much of a fangirl for the field as Ruby, and can control herself (even if she doesn't want to). As a side effect of this, and unlike Ruby, Rita's not much of one for animals or pets - fallen fur and dust is hell on breadboards, and the time cost of keeping a cage or litterbox clean could be better put into that next bit of wiring, after all.

On top of this, Rita occasionally - especially when tired or excited - has an overactive imagination, describing all kinds of ridiculous uses for whatever her latest creation could theoretically handle. She just recently got off of a streak of describing her works in terms of how they'd be useful for surviving a zombie apocalypse, but has moved on and branched out to aliens, arctic foxes, and random strange monsters from RPG handbooks. Certainly, she's a good bit less 'grounded' on this front than Ruby.

Rita's more exuberant tendencies are somewhat tempered by her significant amount of martial arts training, which she at least occasionally remembers to keep in practice, and which has taught her discipline (at least in some forms) and focus, enabling her to persist through even very complicated builds for her classwork, her sister, or just for fun. Pointedly, when focusing on something, she usually stops talking entirely. The same focus has proven helpful for that pesky and oh-so-pointless humanities homework, too, and keeps her from jumping into decisions too quickly…

… Except when it comes to money. Other than locking her inheritance away and not touching money meant for Yin's drum kit, Rita is nigh-invariably terrible with money. Costly fast-casual food is her calorie intake, figures from shows she likes overclog her slowly-increasing number of shelves, and collectibles she finds 'cute' take up all manner of other corners in her room. (Her concept of 'cute' is kind of scary to others at times, honestly…) She at least remembers to cover and pay off her major expenses first, which has so far kept this from biting her with any major issues.

Behind her overspending tendencies and exuberance, though, Rita's definitely kind of a lonely person. She has a tendency to push people who aren't very close to her away, afraid to get too close to anyone due to a deeply-ingrained fear of loss, borne of seeing so much pain from those close to her in her youth, a series of repeated shocks that have impacted her desire to be close to people - even moreso than Ruby, in fact, with her being slower to open up to those she has come to trust by comparison. This can easily come across as her being more reserved by nature, at least when she isn't talking about stuff she's really into. She pretty much had to be goaded to go onto any social networks at all, let alone start posting on them, with most of what she posts being quiet little memes that hopefully won't draw too much attention to herself.

Like Ruby, Rita's got a tendency to nigh-subconsciously carry elements of past traumas with her - for example, keeping a hairstyle very similar to her mother's, differentiated only by her recently-added red tips. After her sister's accident, she's taken to avoiding using her left arm when around Yin - and favoring her right hand more than usual even when not around her. And, when practicing martial arts, unlike both Yin and her father, Rita is almost completely silent, only breathing in time with her motions, even though her father believes this impacts the power of her moves.

SAMPLE

Rita Redfeldt's dorm room was exactly as she'd left it when she fell asleep last night. Which was, honestly, unsurprising. Maybe boring? It meant no weird things had happened nearby last night. No werewolf invasion, no apocalypse… The radio was playing perfectly normal news, and there was barely a speck of dust to be seen… Except on the floor. She'd stopped before she got to vacuuming. Sleep was important too, after all. Don't get enough sleep, your grades fail you really quickly. So, sleep it was! Vaccuuming the room could come later. Like, when she actually had the vacuum. Which would be at least after class.

So, that left Rita's most reliable friend, besides her shelves full of toys: The Internet. A quick hop out of her bed, and two steps to the desk along the opposite wall. Her computer had been on all night, of course, so a quick shake of the mouse and nine taps on the keyboard later, and her browser was up, exactly like she'd left it last night. Meaning no cyberghosts or superhackers or anything. Yin's latest video on screen, paused halfway in when she'd decided to wait for sleep. Two different social networks, glanced over for maybe three minutes before she was done with that for the moment. She didn't have enough people on her friends list to care much about the different company updates that were the majority of her feed.

That left the last tab: Cat Photos Anonymous. Literally just photos of cats, posted anonymously for the Internet to enjoy. Often inexplicable ones. Like this one of a tabby cat seemingly carrying an entire tree, making the cat look a lot bigger than it was. That had to be a fake tree, right? Rita'd have to ask someone in the film program how they could make that look real.

That left one last bit of business. Picking up her cellphone, she quickly thumbed through the app, waited through the load time - was that ten seconds? She'd have to replace this thing sometime - and dialed in an automated line run by the school. She was not going to try to go to class when the buildings were closed again, if she could help it, and the bored voice of some student assistant on the other line saying that all classes were running on schedule today.

Welp, that meant time to get showered, get dressed and get going with her day! Just another boring day of college. Maybe tonight she could diagram out the latest trick for Yin's kit out. That'd be a neat challenge. Costly to build, though; the current breadbox was kinda at its limit if she wanted to keep the key circuits intelligible to anyone who wasn't, well, Rita herself.
